Fourchon Public Beach Update:
The remaining 2 miles of Port Fourchon Pubic Beach is becoming very crowded in part I know, because of my weekly FREE promotion of this entire area for over 4 years online in the LaFishMag.com web site, and because the Caillouet Land Company took and blocked the 7 miles of public beach to the east for there own personal use. This has been in the makings with intimidation by private security guards hired by the Caillouet Land Co writing down peoples license numbers and telling them to keep off of private property, when in fact the beach is public property. The public has 7 miles of state owned public beach for all types of recreation going east to Bayou Thunder, at the LaFourche/Jefferson Parish line. Now it has only two miles remaining. Mr. Ted Falgout of the Louisiana Coastal Conservation Board and the Fourchon Port Comission told me personally that putting pilings across the public beach is AGAINST THE LAW when it was done at Elmers Island, and the beach access there was opened up again. Now the Caillouet Land Company out of Thibodaux, Louisiana has done it under his nose right in his back yard.

This section of public beach recently refilled and stolen was completely washed away again last year. Mr. Ted Falgout told me months before this dredging that they were going to put the dischage spoil pipe from the dredging of bayou LaFourche here to put the sand back and we would be able to drive on our states public beach to the east again. See the above image for how long that lasted. First this company took the public filled high ground beach access road, and it seems the greed never stops, they have now installed what appears to be a guard/security building at the piling line on the high ground they took at the end of the 300 ft Bayou LaFourche right of way to the gulf. (image below) I hope they make millions of dollars off of the property they do own, they are a "Land Co.". But ripping off the public 7 miles of state owned beach to the east just won't do. They actually own the property behind the beach at the high tide line, and it is located behind the beach to just about the first (eastern most) of the twelve sunken rusty barges, just about 1000 ft of 7 miles they have claimed access to for their private use only.

Caillouet shack at the piling line where it now crosses the public beach too.

All public recreational activity blocked at this illegal piling line across our public beach.

The dredge and the discharge (spoil pipe) that brought the most recent load of sand to replace the public beach sand lost.

Note that there is no beach sand again for anyone to use to the east below the arrow above. This is the discharge end of the dredge pipeline that brought the latest sand that refilled the public beach. Now the Caillouet Land Company has claimed this recently replaced public beach sand as their own and put pilings across it too.

I took this image of some of the kids that showed up for the annual beach sweep that has gone on every year, the Caillouet Land Co claims on their web site they support conservation and this activity. It used to go on for cleaning up the 9 miles of beach for many years. They not so much as open a gate to let these kids go beyond the 2 miles remaining now.

Recreation on part of the 2 miles remaining at Fourchon Public Beach at dawn with anglers in the water.
Perhaps somewhere in the vast LaFourche parish area to the east of highway 3090 and south of Highway La-1 an additional public road can be made to access the seven miles of public beach now blocked, and open more of this popular area to recreation, this would benefit the public and benefit the Port Fourchon expansion.
