There are hugh schools of bait fish, mixed Trout and Dolphins between the Grand Isle coastal rock jettys and the beach on the Gulf of Mexico side. We fished the same place as last report, about midway of the 6 mile island. We caught and released over 70 trout! The water visability was great despite the high tailwinds because we are fishing on the downwind side and inside the rocks too. We caught them with: Rangatang fishing lures.

The water is full of activity, dozens and dozens of magnificent dolphins standing on their heads, and dancing on their tails. It was unbelievable, just standing there fishing, you would be startled again and again by a dolphin slowly surfacing just a few feet away by the sound of his blow hole and some would check you out eye to eye as they slowly coast by. Of the over 70 fish we caught, 19 were speckled trout, some were 10-11 inches, too small to keep. But not for "Harry", he is a big old guy with a white spot near his slightly curved very hairy dorsal fin on the trailing side. What an amazing creature! Of all the trout I released, Harry personally ate 8 speckled trout! It was absolutely amazing, he would just stay to the left of me rolling in the clear water and wait for them, we had priceless moments that were totally unexpected, I really can't describe the pure thrill this trip was, you should visit down there just to walk the beach and watch the dolphins play.

We kept some nice fresh trout and had a delicious Tempura batter fish fry. We also drove a few miles east to the Grand Isle State Park, to check on park conditions, and update the severe coastal erosion problems they have.

Center fish above is a small Bluefish, mouth full of sharp teeth and very agressive, they are in with the schools of trout. Many crabs are making the summer beach run right now too!
